Bird's Nest Soup

Bird's Nest soup (燕窩) is a pretty luxurious delicacy in Chinese cuisine. The key ingredient, Bird's Nest, is some protein-licious bird's saliva(:O) that has a slimy texture. This soup is often made sweet and served as a dessert. (Some Asian restaurants go as far as to incorporate Bird's Nest into their egg tarts. Indeed a good gimmick.)

The type of Bird's Nest that my mom bought was around $100US (for like 5 pieces?-- we used only 1 piece for this pot shown in the picture). At times, they can cost up to thousands depending on their availability and varying nutritious value. Despite its cost, many still eat this for the health benefits. The most well known benefit (to me) is probably its skin nourishing value. Though, I doubt you can see any visible improvements unless you drink this daily (for which I cannot afford ): ), it's nice to pamper yourself once in a while.

Oh, and thanks to this.. my thumb was steamed.

(It's healing fast though.. possibly because of the Bird's Nest? HAHA)
